Winter is only a memory, and with the bitter cold a thing of the past, so many of us are moving outside to enjoy the warmer, but not overly hot, weather. It’s the time of year when we get together, enjoy twilight cookouts and backyard parties, relaxing in the shade of our favorite outdoor living spaces, and just having fun in the not-quite-summer sun.
Just like indoors, there is something to be said for the right decor in our outside living areas. From furniture to decorations, from lighting to play surfaces, the outdoor living industry is only getting bigger each year. And so it really is no wonder that people are seeking great ideas to spruce up their deck, gazebo, or outdoor plot. Here are a few popular ideas this spring, gathered by the BrightTouch experts.
We would be remiss if we didn’t visit the topic of lighting first, which is, of course, a pretty big and wide ranging topic. There are lots of choices when it comes to lighting your outside living area, including solar area lights and floodlights that can cover a whole area. The choice you opt for will need to meet the requirements you have. For example, if you are going to need lighting for nighttime activities, then some larger lights or lighting options are appropriate.
If you are looking for a way to add something to the living area, consider draping fairy string lights around. With so many different colors to choose from, and lengths that allow you to cover a good amount of area, you can do a number of decorating numbers with these lights. The copper wire is flexible, but stays in the shape you put it in, so you can create shapes, wrap it around banisters, or run it along a walkway as running lights for safety or decoration. Waterproof and cool to the touch at all times, these lights can really add that special something to every outdoor gathering.
Something to Sit On
It might sound like a given, but you’d be surprised at how often people forget about furniture and sitting spaces when they are looking at decorating their outside living space. Because we only spend time out there when the weather is nice, we often forget that we need places to sit, places to sit things on, and perhaps other furniture items that pull the whole thing together. Remember, this is not just the great outdoors – it is an outside living room that you will use to entertain friends and spend quality time with the family.
As such, having the right furniture is important. Depending on your needs, you might opt for a larger couch or outdoor living suite. This would allow you to throw some pretty grand outside parties for more than just your family. On the flip side, if you are just planning on spending time outside with the ones that are closest to you, then you may only need a few folding chairs. Be sure to consider your situation and goals before you purchase anything.
Just like any other place in your home, outdoors needs some additions to tie everything in together and make it all homey and comfortable. One thing our experts recommend are mosquito torches. If you surround your outdoor living space with these, or another mosquito control method, you will be far more comfortable there. No one likes to get eaten alive, and with all the diseases that they carry it is always safer and better to try to keep them away from you and your friends or family.
Other additions to the yard don’t have to be as functional, but they can. You can put up plain decor, like a pink flamingo for example, or you can opt for something that will provide light and warmth, like a fire pit. Whether you close in the living area with a barrier or a deck of some kind, or you just open it up to the world around your yard is another way to add on something to your outdoor living space. Regardless of what you do, remember that your space is just that – yours – and you should feel free to decorate and add what you need to make your second living room all that you want it to be.
